Sustainable Living

The Good Earth Farm invites you to experience life close to nature.

Unwind, recharge, and connect with the earth and yourself.

Imagine starting your day, enjoying your steaming morning drink whilst watching the sun rise over the misty indigenous forest and mountains, with the song of the birds, roaring of the lions across the valley and monkeys and lemurs calling in the new day.

At nightfall, the moon rises from behind the mountains, bathing the forest in silvery light, ideal for a stroll down the country road and a perfect end to the day. The new moon invites a myriad of stars to light up the night sky. Owls, Night Jars and Bush Babies call in the time to rest and relax in front of a fire crackling in the boma outside. Permaculture, Food Foresting and Biodynamic principles are used to cultivate our food and herb gardens surrounding the accommodation units. We invite you to experience living close to the land and to become part of Nature.

Matt, our resident Regenerative Agriculturist, will gladly walk you through the principles employed on the farm and is a mine of insight and useful information, heading up our workshops in this field.

Guests are welcome to herbs in herb gardens planted close to the units. Boschvelder Chickens happily cluck about the gardens removing excess bugs from the herb and food gardens and enjoy food waste from our guests, so please feed the food waste bin in your kitchen – the cleaning ladies collect daily and the chickens are fed away from the accommodation units as excess food in the gardens attract monkeys and baboons who can be extremely destructive. Whatever the chickens don’t eat, we turn into compost.

Our resident horses, Star and Brave, are happy to say hello and enjoy being brushed and loved. Please enquire if you would like to interact with the horses so that we can assist you to do so safely.

A Forest Path winds its way down to the Buffels River, running through the property. You are welcome to take your time making your way down into the steep valley, where the stream flows, and enjoy a tranquil moment listening to the sounds of the forest and the water, of nature.

Matt offers guided walks around the farm and to nearby nature reserves and magnificent natural areas. Please enquire if you are interested in more information or a guided walk.
